We ❤ Medium. We love it for the high-quality content created and distributed on the platform, but also for the intuitiveness of its publishing tools and dashboard. In the over-saturated world that is the Internet these days, it’s refreshing to find a site like Medium that focuses on quality and simplicity.

If you love Medium, too, here are eight tools that were created to help you use the platform more effectively—or borrow some of your favorite features and apply it to your own site. Whether you want to automatically turn your tweetstorms into Medium posts or you want to add similar inline commenting to your own blog, you’ll find what you’re looking for below.

1. Medium CLI

A command line interface for reading Medium stories.

Medium CLI is an open-source interface for engineers and hackers who don’t want to leave their terminals to read Medium articles. If you have no idea what a “terminal” is, this tool will probably be less useful to you. ;-) But for those of you who do, Medium CLI will give you a list of top Medium stories to choose from and read—as well as any other articles published on the platform. Great if you don’t want to leave the confines of your console…or on the off chance that you don’t want your boss to catch you reading stories instead of coding.

2. Tweedium

Transform your tweetstorms into Medium posts.

This is a really interesting use of the Medium API. Essentially, if you go on a Twitter rant, you can turn those tweets into a Medium post automatically (here’s an example) with tweedium. If you find yourself frequently thinking, “Damn, those tweet- thoughts would make for a good article,” now you can easily make it happen.

3. Top Highlights for Medium

TL;DR for Medium top highlights.

Well, this is quite a clever Chrome extension. As you scroll through your Medium feed and hover on a particular article, the top highlight from the post will pop out. While it may not be a substitute for reading the actual content, this is a cool way to more quickly find articles that will interest you. Top Highlights for Medium also gives you insight into what people most wanted to remember about an article after reading it. Definitely worth the download, especially if you consume a lot of content on the platform.

4. Mediunic

A Medium client for Mac.

If you want to improve your Medium reading experience on Mac, Mediunic is your new best friend. It’s a read-only application for now (though writing/publishing functionality is in the works), but you can still share preexisting content. It also supports both fullscreen (for all the single-taskers out there) and splitview (for all the attempted multi-taskers out there) modes. Clean and simple UI—the best!

5. Medium Editor

The dead simple inline editor toolbar.

If you love the simple text editor on Medium, you’ll love Medium Editor. Essentially, you can incorporate this code library into any web application. It might be a little tricky to install on a self-hosted blog if you’re not comfortable with code, but it’s certainly worth looking into if you’re a big fan of this simple inline edit toolbar. One cool difference? Unlike Medium’s text editor, you can choose from five different fonts.

6. FundaMine

Get Medium style annotations on your site.

One of the most-loved features on Medium is the inline commenting and highlighting function that enables readers to have contextual conversations throughout the body of an article. FundaMine makes that functionality available for all blogs and media sites, which we’re pumped about. This is a must-have tool if you want to spark conversation among readers about specific ideas throughout an article—not just general comments about the content overall, which is the only option on most sites.

7. Medium Battle

See who’s better at writing on Medium.

This super fun tool will compare two different Medium usernames and determine who’s better at writing on the platform based on number of posts, words, and recommendations. If nothing else, Medium Battle provides high-quality entertainment for all the writing nerds out there who love to publish and consume content on this increasingly popular platform. P.S. Apparently, Product Hunt “beats” Medium at writing on Medium. [insert dougie dance here.]

8. The Ultimate Guide to Medium

How I made $10k from one story, and other viral strategies.

The author of The Ultimate Guide to Medium, Greg Muender, spent over 150 hours researching and writing this ebook to help you use Medium to write and promote stories that do whatever you ultimately want them to do—whether it’s make money, acquire new users, or build your brand equity. You’ll learn how to optimize everything from writing length and formatting, to structuring your bio and leveraging recommendations. This is a fantastic resource for anyone who wants to up their game on Medium.

We can’t wait to see what you write and share as a result of using some of the tools in this article. Looking for more resources to master your use of Medium? You can find the full collection on Product Hunt.
