Some of our favorite kinds of products are ones that serve to keep you safe, whether you’re on the road or in the comfort of your own home. We are always inspired when we see a product like that launch on Product Hunt, so we scoured the site for some of the best ones.

Check out five of the ones the Product Hunt community loves the most, and give them a try. Better safe than sorry!

1. LifePaint

Volvo released this product with the slogan, “The best way to survive a crash is not to crash.” While it feels a little bit like a marketing campaign (a car company creating reflective safety spray for bike riders?), the product has the ultimate potential to reduce injuries and deaths on the road, so we’re all for it.

LifePaint is a unique water-based reflective safety spray. It works best on textile materials and can be applied to clothes, shoes, helmets, backpacks, and even dog collars. It washes off without damaging whatever you apply it on, and a typical use lasts more than a week.

And don’t worry, you won’t look like a walking neon sign; the spray is invisible in the daylight and glows brightly when under the direct glare of car headlights. If you are a late-night walker or bike rider, give this a try.

2. SafeDrive

This is a super cool app that incentivizes you not to use your phone while driving. Once you exceed 6mph, the SafeDrive algorithm will begin awarding you points. While you’re driving, you’ll see a “Release” screen on your phone (which is intentionally boring to keep you from getting distracted). If you press the release button, you’ll automatically lose points you made during that trip.

You’ll rack up points for every safe trip you take, which you can then redeem for discounted products offered by responsible companies. This is a great app that nudges you to avoid getting distracted by your phone while on the road. We highly recommend giving it a try!

3. Companion App

The Companion App is such a great tool for pedestrians who want to make sure they arrive at their destination safely. All you have to do is plug in your destination and mode of transportation, then invite your friends to be a companion (which means they can track your trip even if they don’t have the app downloaded).

During your trip, you can call the police with one tap if you feel unsafe. And, when you get to your destination, it’s easy to let your companions know you have arrived safely. This app is an example of technology at its best.

4. Nest Protect 2.0

Smoke alarms are one of those things you know you need in your home, but they always seem to go off at the most awkward times (like when you’re hosting a dinner party—the worst). Luckily, Nest created Nest Protect, an industrial-grade smoke sensor. It’s the first home alarm you can silence from your phone without an extra hardware required.

It also has a 10-year carbon monoxide sensor, which is amazing since it’s not something you can see or smell if it does become a problem in your home. And, it automatically checks products and sensors daily to make sure things are always working properly in case of an emergency.

Finally—a reinvented, much better take on the traditional home alarm.

5. Cloak 3.0

So many of us use public WiFi regularly, but those networks aren’t so safe. Cloak is changing that with an auto-secure feature that automatically connects you to a secure VPN and protects you from sniffing, monitoring, or DNS poisoning attacks.

The interface is beautiful and minimal, making it effortless to manage your online security. It’ll also notify you when you’re using an untrusted network to make sure you still want to use it. This is a fantastic app, particularly if you’re a frequent traveler or remote worker and often find yourself using public WiFi networks.
